Princess V45 - Brochure Foreword
The Princess name has become synonymous with all that is finest in motor yacht design.

Since 1965, Princess has grown on the foundations of our original core values; dedication to quality, strength and integrity in both design and in build.

Based in some of the most modern boat-building facilities in Europe, every Princess craft is the result of a rigorous and uncompromising approach to every detail of its design and manufacture. Our highly skilled workforce blends cutting edge technology with traditional craftsmanship to set new standards in performance, seakeeping, comfort and safety.

The result is the definitive motor yacht experience.

PROJECT TO PRINCESS

Princess Yachts International plc was originally founded in 1965 as Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd to fit out and charter the 'Project 31', the first boat to be built at the Company’s original factory facilities in Newport Street, Plymouth.

When the boat was subsequently sold, further orders were taken for Project 31's and the idea of fitting out boats for sale was realised. A number of new models followed ranging from 20 to 30 feet which were marketed as 'Projects' and 'Pilgrims', until the first boat developed using in-house GRP hull mouldings was launched in 1970; the Princess 32.

More than 1,200 Princess 32's were sold over the following ten years, firmly establishing the Princess name in important markets across the globe and creating a lasting association between the Princess brand and timeless, elegant design, impeccable quality and class-leading performance at sea.

Over the ensuing years the Company has built on this reputation and has introduced more than 80 new model lines. The Company now owns and operates from over 870,000 ft' (81,000 ml) of vertically integrated factory facilities and has become one of the most respected names in the marine industry.

Today we remain absolutely committed to creating some of the world's most exciting hand-built motor yachts.

PERFORMANCE AND SAFETY

A Princess is instantly recognisable for her graceful lines and understated styling. Yet underlying those elegant looks are pioneering advances in hull design and construction to achieve higher speeds more safely and more comfortably, even in the most challenging seas.

The modified deep-V hull, specifically engineered for weight reduction, incorporates propeller tunnels for improved propulsive efficiency and forward thrust, while also reducing draft. These tunnels have the hydrodynamic effect of keeping the boat more horizontal in the transition from displacement to planing, offering better visibility and control.

Hull lines are developed and honed with advanced computer modelling using the latest CAD technology. This is further refined over many thousands of hours of testing in some of the toughest waters of the world - the English Channel off Plymouth.

It is a painstaking approach, but it has led to Princess setting new standards of hull design. Moulded spray rails are configured to roll water away to keep the boat dryer at higher speeds and to reduce frictional resistance, while a revolutionary curved chine and optimal deadrise at the transom ensure a softer ride and a stable tracking, even in following and quarter seas.

The latest generation hull lines, combined with conventional drive and high-speed balanced rudders, optimise straight-line stability and turning performance to impress even the most demanding yachtsman.

A Princess is designed to be responsive and easy to handle whether running at speed or operating within the confines of a busy marina. Electronic engine controls and, where necessary, power assisted steering and a powerful bow thruster, enable manoeuvring to be undertaken with absolute precision.

Raised bulwarks, extended stainless steel safety rails, moulded non-slip surfaces and teak decking ensure secure navigation around the boat, whilst toughened safety glass and clear forward screens optimise night vision and give you the confidence to fully explore the boat's high-speed potential.

DESIGN & CRAFTSMANSHIP

Clean uncluttered lines and a muscular, deep-V hull give a Princess an undeniable presence. At the helm, figure-hugging seats are positioned for maximum visibility and sit within comfortable reach of both wheel and throttle controls. A logical instrument layout with clear and concise gauges confirms that this is a craft designed for high-speed cruising.

On deck, the accent is on open-air living and entertaining, whether enjoying the pleasures of running at sea or the tranquillity of a secluded anchorage.

A large cockpit with ample seating makes for informal al-fresco dining or the ideal social setting.

Below, the atmosphere is relaxed. Meticulously crafted interiors blend a delicate choice of the lineal natural materials and fabrics from classic to contemporary.

Subtle lighting and exquisite detailing complement well proportioned layouts to create that unique Princess character.

Bespoke timber furniture, finished in classic or natural cherry veneers and often featuring marquetry inlay or quartered grain, is crafted by hand in a dedicated facility covering 128,000 ft' (12,000 mZ).

A team of highly skilled craftsmen including carpenters, upholsterers and lacquer technicians take great pride in the creation of these interiors. Contemporary furniture is specially designed in-house to maximise the use of space available in each model.

CAD software is used to identify non-structural areas where considerable weight savings can be achieved. Once built, each piece of cabinetry and every complex capping or solid door frame is protected with up to seven layers of lacquer, rubbed down by hand between coats for a deep lustrous finish.

The superbly equipped galleys and luxurious cabins are provided with generous storage space in a fine balance of comfort, practicality and high-quality finish. Even the traditional stall shower has been redesigned for better usability.

Each boat is built to a uniquely personal specification below being individually sea-tested and fine-tuned to ensure high levels of performance, handling and integrity, which are (,o crucial to the boating experience.

EXCELLENCE IN ENGINEERING

Decades of experience in marine engineering set the foundations for class-leading technical design and build solutions that are at the heart of every Princess.

From integrally bonded engine room bulkheads to high-tech hull-stiffening structures, knowledge and expertise underpin the ability of each craft to deal confidently with the tough conditions the ocean can sometimes impose.

Each hull is hand laid using glass reinforced plastic (GRP) and enhanced performance gelcoat, with an initial lay-up of powder bound matt and isophthalic resin providing important protection against osmosis.

The combination of the latest gelcoat technology and dicyclopentadiene resin chemistry provides greater heat and UV resistance and ensures significantly improved gloss, colour retention and freedom from distortion.

Particular attention is given to the hull's point-of-entry and areas of fibreglass accommodating through-hull fittings such as raw-water inlets or bow thruster tunnels. Here the laminate

is reinforced with additional layers of solid fibreglass creating a strong and durable structure to optimise hull integrity and to provide peace of mind in the most rigorous conditions.

Increased torsional strength and high-thermal insulation are achieved in the construction of deck, superstructure and selected hull top-sides through the integration of GRP with balsa or PVC foam coring.

To maintain a comfortable environment at cruising speeds or higher, every engine room is soundproofed using the latest sound-deadening materials, while solid engine beds are bonded to the hull for greater strength and vibration absorption. High volume air intakes feed the latest in high performance diesel engine technology, providing optimum output and efficiency and delivering speeds of up to 40 knots.

Each model is designed with a bespoke exhaust system, silenced and water-cooled, and is configured to each available engine installation to minimise emissions and noise levels. The latest in underwater exhaust technology is incorporated on several models and all craft conform to EU noise emission requirements.

From concept, performance and safety are key to the Princess ownership experience. Composite construction makes those extra few knots accessible and delivers superior economy to maximise your cruising range, while careful consideration of every safety feature ensures maximum security and comfort for you and your guests whilst on the water.

Building on a solid heritage, our highly skilled craftsmen and uncompromising approach to design and manufacturing combine to create some of the most dynamically and technologically advanced motor yachts in production today. Faithful to our core values and delivering unrivalled comfort, safety and performance at sea, a Princess stimulates both your heart and mind.

Every Princess craft is the result of a rigorous and uncompromising approach to every detail of its design and manufacture. These details are sometimes obvious for all to see. On the water, there's no mistaking a Princess, instantly recognisable for graceful lines and a timeless elegance that will never date.
